Privacy Notice

Pre-launch draft: operator contact details and the retention policy are awaiting confirmation. This notice is not yet final.

What Pine handles

Pine processes your name, email address, password hash, optional profile photo, journal entries, collections, tags, moods and account preferences. Verification codes are used to confirm your email or recover access. Hosting providers also process technical request information needed to operate and secure the service.

Why it is used

This information supports account access, saving and finding your writing, account changes, verification emails and security. Your journal is not a public webpage. Pine is not end-to-end encrypted: its backend and service providers process data to deliver these features.

Service providers

The current application uses Railway for backend hosting, Supabase for database storage, Redis for caching and rate limits, and Resend for transactional emails. Optional fonts are requested from Google Fonts, which receives technical information such as your IP address. Provider processing may take place outside your country.

Optional AI features

When you allow an AI action, relevant journal text, titles, moods and your question or conversation are sent to Groq through Pine’s backend. A single-entry chat uses that entry; journal-wide features can use multiple recent non-archived entries. You can use the writing features without AI.

Permission in the current app lasts for the current page session and can be withdrawn by reloading the page. This stops future AI requests, not processing already completed. Pine disables application prompt tracing to LangSmith. Provider retention is governed by its configuration and policies; Pine does not promise zero retention. See Groq’s data documentation.

Browser storage

Pine stores a sign-in token and appearance preferences in browser storage and uses in-memory caches to keep the app responsive. Signing out clears the app’s authenticated session. On a shared device, sign out when finished.

Retention and deletion

Archiving retains an item. Deleting an item or your account removes it from the active application. Temporary caches, backups, security records and provider-held records may persist separately.

The exact backup, log and provider retention periods are being confirmed before public launch.

Your choices and requests

You can edit your profile and writing, decline AI processing, delete items and delete your account in Settings. Contact the operator for questions or requests relating to access, correction, deletion, a copy of your information or other rights available under applicable law. Requests may require identity verification.
